QC Learning Acadamy
Econometrics is widely regarded as the perfect background knowledge to properly analyze huge amounts of data and answer the many questions they pose. These questions are steadily changing the way our world works and operates. Last spring, The Economist headed with “Data sciences help meet the challenges of the 21s century” and The Harvard Business Review wrote “Data Scientist - The sexiest job of the 21st century”: a lot of promise and seemingly golden opportunities. Data has already brought people closer together and created insights into our world that one could only dream of a couple of years ago. Some of the world’s most successful firms have adapted quickly to these possibilities.
The question is, obviously, how a graduate can successfully make us of these possibilities. For one, studying Econometrics is a huge step in the right direction. This is not everything, however. With only the theoretical background, you will not necessarily be able to successfully impact your surroundings. Creativity is essential, just as communicative and social skills. Teamwork, presentation skills, visualization skills and many, many more are just as important. Because of this, the VSAE has sat together with leaders in the field to determine the essential skills that students should acquire to become future leaders in the field of data.
It is with pride that we can present you the product of these dialogues; the QC Learning Academy. A collaboration between academics, professionals and the city Amsterdam. To be able to adequately develop our students, the Academy will constantly be updated by professionals in the field; making sure there is no lag between what the Academy educates and the world asks. In addition to this, participants of the Academy will practice their skills and quantitative mind in real-life case studies for cultural institutions in the Amsterdam area. It is here that the skills of the Academy and the background of Econometrics will meet.
The Academy is all about development, development and development. Because of this, you will constantly be coached and have the possibility to indicate which skills you would like to develop further during the process. Besides the didactical perspective of the Academy, there is a strong idealistic mindset. This is partly the reason that we do our case studies for cultural institutions and NGO’s. Other reasons are the fact that this is one of the sectors where the biggest innovations can still be done from a quantitative perspective.
