Actuarial Congress 2026

About the committee

The Actuarial Congress is one of the largest projects of the VSAE. This congress, organized by the committee, has a special theme each year and is held at a beautiful location in Amsterdam. This congress is important and interesting for both actuaries and students. During the congress, there are plenary and interactive sessions where the theme is discussed from various perspectives.

As a committee member, you are responsible for organizing a prestigious congress. You are responsible for finding sponsors, selecting speakers, and publishing the AC magazine. The committee will take approximately 4-7 hours a week and will consist of 6 committee members, including a chair.

Experience Anna Markevica (Chairwoman AC 2025)

In the second and third year of my bachelor’s degree, I had the honour of serving as Chairman of the Actuarial Congress Committee. By that time, this was already the fourth committee I had been part of within the VSAE. Having previously experienced the more social and party-oriented committees, I was eager to take on a greater challenge. The Actuarial Congress Committee stood out as a more serious and impactful opportunity: not only is it highly valued on a CV, it is also the committee that generates the most revenue for the association.

Initially, I was surprised to be chosen as the chairman of such an important committee. However, the board consistently selects individuals they trust for their passion and dedication, and this experience showed me that anyone with these qualities truly has an equal chance.

The experience itself was nothing short of amazing. Together with my incredible committee and the board, we organised the largest student-organised actuarial congress, a milestone I am extremely proud of. The congress allows working actuaries in the Benelux region to obtain 6 PE points required to maintain their actuarial certification. One of our first major tasks was selecting the theme. After extensive discussions with Dr Angela van Heerwaarden (Programme Director of AEMAS) and other experts in the field, we settled on “Pandemic Impact: Actuarial Insights into a Post-Pandemic World.”

From there, we worked intensively on acquisition, sharpening our business approach and securing high-value sponsors. Alongside this, we managed marketing, promotion and ticket sales, while simultaneously arranging speakers, gifts, posters, and countless other details behind the scenes. It may sound overwhelming, but this is exactly why the committee became my favourite 100%: it offers real-world, hands-on experience in organising a high-impact professional event from the ground up, no shortcuts.

Despite the workload, we never forgot the importance of team bonding and just having fun. Spending so much time together naturally brought us closer, we never said no to post-meeting beer pitchers or doing bowling nights. We also went to a two-day trip to Cologne filled with amazing vibes, great company, and, you guessed it, fantastic beer and food.

On March 4th, the Actuarial Congress successfully took place at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute. During the closing borrel, participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback and were already looking forward to the next edition. To top it all off, I received a job offer that very evening from one of our sponsoring companies, where I am still happily working today.

So, what can I say? Join the Actuarial Congress Committee for an experience filled with amazing friends and adventures, professional growth, fulfilment, and truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
