Econometric Game 2026

About the committee

The Econometric Game is one of the largest projects within the VSAE. Every year, PhD and master's students from around the world gather at a beautiful location in Amsterdam to compete in the field of econometrics. This event is therefore often seen as a kind of "World Econometrics Championship". Universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford have become annual participants. As a committee member, you are responsible for, among other things, contacting the universities, finding a professor to write a high-quality case, and securing sponsors. In short, The Econometric Game is a large and prestigious event and a great challenge for the committee! The committee will take approximately 4-7 hours a week and will consist of 6 committee members, including the chair.

Experience Amina Khamidova (Responsible for universities EG 2026)

As a second-year bachelor student at the University of Amsterdam, I had the honour of being part of the Econometric Games committee. I applied because I was interested in contributing to a large academic event and gaining experience outside of my studies, while also meeting motivated students with similar interests. I was selected for the position of University Relations, which meant reaching out to professors and universities to encourage them to participate in the event. This role was especially interesting because it gave me insight into different universities and the strength of their econometrics departments. It also helped me think more concretely about possible master’s programmes, as I learned a lot about how econometrics is taught and approached at different institutions.

Joining the committee also positively influenced my social life in many ways. I got to work closely with people I probably would not have met otherwise, which led to collaborations with the board and many other members. As a result, my social circle expanded significantly, and I formed valuable friendships that I still appreciate today.

Throughout the year, we worked intensively as a team, finding sponsors, attracting new and diverse universities, and organising hotels, dinners, and borrels. Seeing the event come together was incredibly rewarding. In the end, the Econometric Games turned out even better than we had imagined.

It was especially fulfilling to help create an opportunity for so many students from all over the world to come together. Meeting such hardworking, enthusiastic, and motivated participants and seeing them engage deeply with the cases made all the effort worthwhile.
