Take your love for Analytics beyond the textbook. Create real quantitative impact!
Are you studying Econometrics, Data Science, Actuarial Science or Business Analytics are the University of Amsterdam? Bachelors or Masters? This is your chance to implement what you have learned in theory to an actual impact project.
Analytics Academy is an initiative of the VSAE that gives students the opportunity to help an NGO with their business case/problem through data. Each semester, several partner NGOs join the program, each bringing a business case/problem, a unique dataset, and a problem for you to solve for them! Your task? Work with your team to create results and be their quantitative consultants. Together with a group of 4-6 students from different study years, you will understand the organisation's ask and conduct detailed research, analyse and model the data provided to you, create data visualisations, and pitch tailor-made recommendations to the organisation. Throughout the project, you will gain hands-on experience with analytics while making a tangible difference for organisations that work to improve society. The time commitment is approximately four hours per week, making it a manageable yet highly rewarding experience alongside your studies.

How to enroll?

Step 1: Attend the Kick-off
Attending the kick-off is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. During this event, you will learn more about the NGOs partnering for that specific round and the trainings that will be offered. It is also a great opportunity to meet the committee and ask any questions you might have.
Step 2: Sign-ups
The day after the kick-off event, sign-ups open for exactly one week. You can apply through our website by submitting your anonymous CV, which will be made available on the VSAE Agenda page.
Step 3: Interview
If your CV is selected, you will be invited for a short interview. The Analytics Academy interviews are brief “getting-to-know-you” meetings where the committee learns more about your preferences for NGO projects, whether you would be interested in a team leader position, and what motivates you to participate.
Step 4: Selection results
Within a week, you will receive the results. Did you get in? Congratulations! It’s now time to meet your team.
Step 5: Start of the project
Together with your team, you will be introduced to the NGO, the business case, and the dataset. From here, the real work begins. You will also know about the training dates, which you can make use to learn more, improve your Academy project and clarify your questions.
Step 6: Kick-out event
After all the work and effort you have put in, it is time to showcase your results. During the kick-out event, you and your team will present and pitch your findings to all the NGOs and other Analytics Academy participants. Followed-up by a round of networking drinks to celebrate the conclusion of your amazing projects!
