Can you start with an introduction about yourself? 

Hi! My name is Daan van Dijk, I am 20 years old and in my second year of the bachelor Econometrics & Data Science. In my free time, I enjoy playing sports like tennis, padel, golf, and more. This year, I am putting aside my studies to fulfil the position of Chairman of the VSAE Board! Besides my Chairman duties, I am part of the External Affairs Team, together with Saif Aknouch. 

 

Why did you decide to do a board year?

The idea of being part of a team and organising many different activities and events, together with my fellow board members, for all our members really motivated me to join the VSAE Board! From my first day as a VSAE member, I have felt at home here and I have had an amazing experience with the association. By being a board member, I have the opportunity to help make sure that many more VSAE members have the same experience as I have had so far! 

 

What are your expectations for the upcoming year?

I expect a year full of fun and exciting events! Making sure all members enjoy the activities and feel included in the association is definitely a goal that we have as a board. Furthermore, we want to further increase the sense of community within the VSAE. After all, we are one big, happy family here :) Feel free to come by the VSAE rooms and hang out with us! 

 

What are your responsibilities as a chairman?

As chairman, personally, I find it important to make sure my fellow board members and VSAE members are doing well. This may sound very cliché, but a board is there for the members! So my number one responsibility, therefore, is the well-being of our members. To ensure this, I am in contact with many different internal and external parties, finding ways to further improve the VSAE!  

 

What are your responsibilities as an external affairs officer?

Saif and I maintain contact with our current partner companies, as well as doing our research and finding potential future partners! Our goal is to give our members a better insight into the possible career paths after studying Econometrics, Actuarial Science or Business Analytics. Each company functions differently, and each member has their personal preferences and expectations regarding working life. By organising different career events together with our committees, we try to close the gap between company and student, to increase the chances for members to find their future dream job through the VSAE!
